As its name indicates, baby acne is another form of acne skin disorder commonly seen in infants (new born babies). It can be present at birth time of the baby, but it appears most of the times after a couple of weeks on the new born's skin.
The area that baby acne targets is usually the neck, cheeks, arms, shoulders, forehead, chin, and even on the back and buttock areas of the baby. Baby acne occurs when hormonal changes in the body of the baby stimulate oil glands in the baby's skin. The condition becomes a bit wayward when the baby starts crying or anything else that causes increases of blood flow to the skin. Good news for all the parents is this, baby acne is not dangerous and usually disappeared by itself in few weeks time.
Baby acne is the result of saliva and milk that comes out from baby's mouth and touches the surface of the skin. Some other causes of baby acne include rough clothes, plenty of warm clothes that you put on the baby's body to cover him. If your baby suffer from acne, avoid using any soap, lotion or cream on his skin. All these things can produce irritation, viral illnesses and allergic reactions and can lead to more acne. If you find that your baby is developing acne because of some medication then do consult with your doctor to stay safe. If acne on your baby's skin is formed without any medications or something like that, then it does not need any kind of treatment, it does not harm your baby's skin at all and is completely a cosmetic issue. All you need to do is wash your baby's skin with simple water once or twice a day, and do not scrub at all. Be carefful, Washing your baby's skin too many times a day may cause irritation and irritation may cause development of more acne.
It is very rare that for severe acen to occur on babies, but if it does, go for the proper treatment, discuss with child specialist doctor and consult your case, just act upon doctor's advice, use the prescribed medication as most of the medications are harmful for baby's skin. Do not experiment with baby's skin as it is is very sensitive.
